Safpro - Building a Digital Foundation That Works as Hard as the Business

Safpro had the reputation, the reach, and the relationships - but their website wasn't keeping up. Over 25 years of export expertise deserved a digital presence that reflected it. We rebuilt their foundation from the ground up - faster, more secure, and built to perform for an international audience.

The Brief

Safpro (SA Fruit Promoters) is a South African fruit marketing and export specialist with over 25 years of experience connecting selected growers to global markets. Managing the full fresh fruit export value chain – from quality-controlled harvesting and cold storage through to international logistics – Safpro supplies premium produce to customers across Europe, the UK, Asia, the Middle East, and North America.

Safpro approached Ruby Digital for turnkey digital and web development support. RubyWeb – as Ruby Digital’s dedicated web solutions partner – took ownership of the full web engagement, from strategy through to delivery.

The core ask was to modernise an underperforming website, strengthen the digital foundation, and build a platform capable of supporting future growth across international markets.

The Challenge

For a business trading at Safpro’s level, a weak digital presence carries real commercial risk. The existing site wasn’t just outdated visually – it was letting the business down operationally. Performance had deteriorated, security coverage was insufficient, and the user experience no longer reflected the credibility of the brand behind it.

The project also extended well beyond a standard website rebuild. Safpro required coordinated delivery across domain management, hosting infrastructure, compliance content, a rebrand transition, and several functional fixes – all without disrupting an internationally active business.

  • The website had not been actively maintained, leaving it vulnerable from a security standpoint and underperforming on speed
  • The user experience and visual design no longer aligned with Safpro's updated corporate identity or its position as an international export specialist
  • A non-functional contact form was preventing enquiries from reaching the business
  • No clear compliance structure existed for email disclaimer requirements - a legal exposure for an internationally trading company
  • Domain infrastructure was fragmented, with safpro.net and safpro.co.za requiring consolidation and proper DNS configuration
  • No ongoing maintenance plan was in place, meaning issues would continue to accumulate without a structure to catch and resolve them

Our Approach

We approached this as a structured digital overhaul, not a redesign brief. The question driving every decision was not “what pages does this site need?” but “what does this platform need to do for Safpro to compete at an international level?”

A dedicated project manager was assigned from day one, using our Rubix delivery framework to keep milestones, workstreams, and communication structured throughout. We mapped all parallel requirements – domain transfers, Cloudflare setup, hosting, compliance content, and the core build – and sequenced them to eliminate delays and dependencies stacking against each other.

A full-stack development team handled front-end and back-end implementation. The platform was built on a custom WordPress template, selected for its flexibility, performance, and long-term maintainability. No off-the-shelf theme. No shortcuts.

Architecture & UX Decisions

The site was designed as a focused, streamlined digital experience – not a deep content hierarchy. For an export business with an international B2B audience, clarity and credibility matter more than volume. Every page layout was built to surface key brand messaging and essential company information cleanly, without friction.

Mobile-first build principles were applied across all page types, ensuring performance and usability held up regardless of device or connection quality – important for a client whose audience spans multiple regions and time zones. Navigation was kept intuitive and purposeful, directing visitors toward the information and contact points that matter most to a B2B buyer.

The Build

The core deliverable was a fully custom WordPress website – responsive, fast, and built to Safpro’s updated brand identity from the ground up.

Supporting the core build, the full scope of delivery included:

  • Custom WordPress design and template development across all page types
  • Mobile-first responsive layouts for desktop and mobile
  • Domain transfers and DNS configuration for safpro.net and safpro.co.za
  • Cloudflare setup for security, CDN performance, and DDoS protection
  • High-performance SEO-optimised hosting on dedicated infrastructure
  • WordPress security hardening, caching configuration, and Yoast SEO setup
  • A branded pop-up built to manage messaging during Safpro’s rebrand rollout
  • A standalone compliance page for email disclaimer requirements, replacing legacy embedded content
  • A hidden QR-code landing page developed from client-supplied Adobe XD designs, built for use on product packaging in the field
  • Resolution of a non-functional contact form submit button
  • Ongoing monthly care plan covering updates, security monitoring, backups, and reporting

All work was delivered in-house. No outsourcing. Single point of accountability from brief to handover.

The Outcome

Safpro now has a website that works as hard as the business behind it. The platform reflects the quality and credibility of an internationally active exporter – and it does so reliably, securely, and without ongoing management burden on the client team.

Specific improvements include:

  • Stronger brand alignment to the refreshed corporate identity
  • Faster load times and improved reliability backed by dedicated hosting and Cloudflare
  • Compliance-ready infrastructure reducing legal and operational risk for an internationally trading business
  • Functional QR-code landing pages supporting packaging and field operations
  • A resolved contact form ensuring no enquiry goes unanswered
  • A proactive monthly care plan keeping the platform current and secure without client effort

The platform is built to grow with the business – structured, scalable, and supported.
