Cornerstone Guesthouse - Zero Online Presence to Ranked, Booked, and Growing

Cornerstone Guesthouse had a strong reputation and loyal guests. What they didn't have was a website. We built one from scratch, integrated a booking system, and supported early SEO work that translated into measurable increases in online reservations.

The Brief

Cornerstone Guesthouse is a highly-rated accommodation provider located near Panorama MediClinic, known for exceptional service and consistently positive guest reviews. Despite a strong offline reputation, the business had no dedicated website and no digital way for potential guests to find or book them.

The business came to RubyWeb via Ruby Digital with a clear goal: build a digital presence from the ground up that would increase monthly bookings, reflect the quality of the guest experience, and grow visibility on Google through smart SEO practices. The platform also needed to support both English and Afrikaans-speaking guests.

The Challenge

Building a website from scratch for an accommodation business means more than design and development. Content, booking capability, multilingual support, and local SEO foundations all needed to come together on a platform that had no existing digital equity to build from.

The client had no existing website copy or content structure. Every piece of messaging – from room descriptions to the brand story – needed to be developed collaboratively before the site could be built.

  • No existing website - completely new digital presence required from zero
  • No existing content or copy - all messaging needed to be developed in collaboration with the client
  • Multilingual requirement - English and Afrikaans support needed via WPML
  • Booking integration required - NightsBridge reservation system needed to connect to the site
  • Local SEO foundation needed to build visibility for proximity-based searches
  • Mobile-first experience essential for guests searching and booking on smartphones

Our Approach

We adopted a two-track approach: website development and content creation ran in parallel, with the messaging shaped around the guesthouse’s genuine strengths – the location near Panorama MediClinic, the warmth of the service, and the quality of the guest experience.

NightsBridge was integrated as the booking system, enabling direct online reservations from the site. WPML was implemented for bilingual support, with content verified for quality and consistency in both languages before launch.

Architecture & UX Decisions

Navigation was designed to guide guests naturally through the site – from the guesthouse’s story and location, through room details and pricing, to the booking action. Prominent CTAs at every logical step made the path from interest to reservation as short as possible.

The design was built to feel warm, professional, and welcoming – not corporate. High-quality imagery, clear room descriptions, and a layout that prioritised ease of use on mobile were central to the visual and functional direction.

The Build

The core deliverable was a complete WordPress website with NightsBridge booking integration, bilingual WPML support, and an SEO foundation built for local visibility. Key deliverables included:

  • Full WordPress website design and development from a new build
  • All website copy written in collaboration with the client
  • NightsBridge booking system integrated for direct online reservations
  • WPML multilingual implementation for English and Afrikaans
  • Mobile-first responsive layout across all page types
  • Clear calls-to-action and booking prompts throughout the user journey
  • High-quality room imagery and descriptive content for each accommodation type
  • Local SEO foundation – metadata, structured data, and Google Business Profile alignment
  • Simplified navigation guiding guests from awareness through to booking

The Outcome

Cornerstone Guesthouse launched with a professional, discoverable website that translated offline reputation into online presence. NightsBridge integration led to a measurable increase in direct online reservations. Early SEO work produced higher rankings and increased visibility for local search queries.

The responsive design ensured guests could find, browse, and book on any device. The bilingual support opened the site to the full range of guests the guesthouse serves.

Frequently Asked Questions

By starting with the business, not the brief. We work with the client to understand their story, their guests, and what makes their offering distinct - then develop content, design, and functionality around those foundations.
NightsBridge is a South African booking and channel management platform widely used in hospitality. Integration with WordPress means guests can check availability and make reservations directly from the site, with bookings flowing into the NightsBridge management system.
Through WPML - the WordPress Multilingual Plugin. Each piece of content is created in the primary language and then translated, with the plugin managing language switching and URL structure. We verify content quality in both languages before launch.
With a solid technical foundation and Google Business Profile alignment, initial visibility for local searches can begin within weeks of launch. Proximity-based search terms respond relatively quickly to well-structured local SEO work.

By visiting the brief from the guest's perspective - what a potential guest needs to know before they book. Location, what's included, the atmosphere, the service quality, and how to reserve. We shape this in collaboration with the client.
